Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
Built
in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, Hawa Mahal is the most stunning sight
in the city of Jaipur. The palace, part of a huge complex, overlooks one of
Jaipur's main streets and was originally erected to offer women of the court
a vantage point, behind stone-carved screens, from the royal ladies used to
watch the activities taking place in the bazaar and the surrounding streets.
This five-story, pyramid-shaped structure is made up of small casements, each
with tiny windows and arched roofs with hanging cornices, intricately modeled
and carved. Its façade makes Hawa Mahal look more like a screen than
a palace. The palace is a fifty-foot high thin shield, less than a foot in thickness,
but has over 900 niches and a mass of semi-octagonal bays, carved sandstone
grills, finials and domes, which give this palace its unique façade.

Jaipur City Palace
In
the heart of the old city of Jaipur stands the City Palace occupying a large
area divided into a series of courtyards, gardens and buildings. The outer wall
was built by Jai Singh but other additions were made much later, some right
up to the beginning of this century. The City Palace of Jaipur is a former royal
residence built in a fine blend of the Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles.
The carved arches are supported by grey-white marble columns ornate with floral
motifs in gold and coloured stones. Two beautifully carved elephants in marble
guard the entrance of the palace. The major attractions in the complex are -
Chandra Mahal, Museum, Silver Vessel, Peacock Gate.

Udaipur City Palace
Standing
proudly on the bank of lake Pichola, are an massive series of palaces built
at different period commencing from 1559 A.D. The main entrance is through the
triple-arched gate - the tripolia, built in 1725. The way now leads to a series
of courtyards, overlapping parations, terraces, corridors and gardens - a harmonic
opulence hard to explain.There is a Suraj Gokhda, where the maharanas of Mewar
presented themselves in the times of trouble to the people to restore confidence.
The Mor-chowk (Peacock courtyard), derived its name from the vivid mosaics in
glass decorating its walls. The chini chitrashala is remarkable while a series
of wall paintings of Krishna are on display in Bhim Vilas.
There are numerous other palaces of interest like - Dilkhush Mahal, Sheesh Mahal,
Moti Mahal and Krishna Vilas. Now, the palace is housed with many antique articles,
paintings, decorative furniture and utensils which attracts thousands of visitors
every day.
